Major Vaccination Project Strives to Tackle FMD

25 November 2014

BOTSWANA – Over 43,000 cattle vaccinations have been administered in northern Botswana after a Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, caused by contact with wild animals, flared up last month.

Zoning and movement controls are in place in Ngamiland to contain the outbreak which led to 44 cases in cattle communally grazing.

The World Organisation for Animal Health has reported that the disease has remained within the zone of the initial outbreak.

Epidemiological investigations are ongoing. No further cases have been recorded.
