Shepherding Challenge Ready to Kick off In Auvergne

FRANCE – The world’s leading shepherds are flocking to the Auvergne in France to showcase their talents and share expertise.

From September 30 to October 1 the World Young Shepherd challenge will test some young farmers and their sheep skills, aiming to foster development of the next generation. .

Katey Craig, 21, is a junior shepherd at the Otiwhiti station near Hunterville said: "Sheep farming is an essential industry in New Zealand and a big part of our national economy.

"This is an awesome opportunity for young shepherds to be recognised and represent their countries at an international level."

Katey, along with Gisbourne based shepherd Mitchel Hoare, were selected after earning top scores in the New Zealand leg of the competition.

They will compete against shepherds from Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Scotland, United States, Uruguay, and Wales.
