Chance for Indiana to Tap into Sheep Funding Programme

22 May 2015

US - Stakeholders in Indiana's sheep industry can apply for funding from a cash reserve drawn from the sale of all sheep within the state.

The Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Council is accepting funding requests for "any programme" promoting the sheep industry.

The funding pot is driven towards research, promotional or educational activities and administered by the Office of Agricultural Research at Purdue University.

Funding represents 0.5 per cent of all sheep sold in the state of Indiana.

Consisting of nine members who represent county groupings in Indiana, the council holds elections each year for three districts. This year, districts 3, 6 and 9 are up for election. The districts cover these counties:

  • District 3: Miami, Wabash, Whitley, Allen, Huntington, Wells and Adams.
  • District 6: Blackford, Jay, Delaware, Randolph, Henry, Wayne, Fayette and Union.
  • District 9: Perry, Orange, Lawrence, Washington, Jackson, Harrison, Floyd, Clark, Scott, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Switzerland, Ripley, Dearborn, Franklin, Crawford, Brown, Bartholomew and Decatur.

Those interested in applying should contact Jerry Fankhauser at [email protected] Any citizen of Indiana, 18 years of age, a sheep producer and living in the district they are running for, may apply.
